Steam Trap Cross Reference: Spirax Sarco, Armstrong, Hoffman, Watson McDaniel, Nicholson & TLV
Steam traps are one of the few product categories where nearly every manufacturer makes a functionally interchangeable equivalent — if you match three things: trap type, connection size and pattern, and pressure rating. This cross-reference covers the four common families — thermostatic, float & thermostatic, inverted bucket, and thermodynamic disc traps — across Spirax Sarco, Armstrong, Hoffman, Watson McDaniel, Nicholson, Spence, and TLV.
Two selection rules before you use the tables. First, face-to-face dimension matters on in-line replacements: an equivalent trap that’s half an inch longer doesn’t fit existing piping, so we’ve kept the F/F dimensions in the tables where the sources provide them. Second, a brand cross is not a capacity calculation — condensate load and differential pressure determine the correct trap size, and the interchange assumes you’re replacing a correctly sized trap like-for-like. If the original was mis-sized, cross-referencing it faithfully reproduces the mistake.
Find your existing trap by manufacturer and model in the tables below, read across for equivalents, and check the size/pressure columns against your nameplate.
TCI Supply stocks Spirax Sarco and sources across all the brands listed. Send us the model off your failed trap — a photo of the nameplate works — and we’ll confirm the interchange and quote same-day where stock allows.

1. Steam Trap Replacement Rules
When cross-referencing steam traps across manufacturers, ensure you are matching the operating principles (e.g., you cannot swap an inverted bucket trap with a thermodynamic disc trap without affecting system performance and drainage characteristics). Always verify Maximum Operating Pressure (PMO), piping connection size (NPT, Flanged, Socket Weld), and the Face-to-Face (F/F) dimension to ensure a drop-in retrofit.
2. Thermostatic Steam Traps
| Spirax Sarco | Watson McDaniel | Armstrong | Hoffman | Typical Size / Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BPT13 / BPT14 | WT2000 / WT2500 | TTF Series | 17C | 1/2″ – 3/4″. Ideal for radiator & tracer lines. |
| TM600 / THP1000 | WT3000 / WT4000 | TVS / TC Series | 19C | High capacity process applications up to 300+ psig. |
3. Float & Thermostatic (F&T) Steam Traps
| Spirax Sarco | Watson McDaniel | Armstrong | Hoffman | Typical Size & Connections |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FT14 / FT15 Series | WFT-15 / WFT-30 | 15-F&T / 30-F&T | Series 50 (15-30 psi) | 3/4″ – 2″. Verify F/F dimensions. PMO up to 30 psig. |
| FT125 / OK Series | WFT-125 / WFT-250 | 125-F&T / Series B & C | Series 50 (125+ psi) | Capacity drops as differential pressure rating increases. |
4. Inverted Bucket Steam Traps
| Spirax Sarco | Watson McDaniel | Armstrong | Hoffman | Typical Size / Notes |
