Allen Bradley 1769-L32E CompactLogix controller

The CompactLogix modular controller with part number 1769-L32E is a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) that is manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This controller is typically used in machine control and medium sized process applications. The controller has an integrated One (1) RS232 and One (1) Ethernet communications port.

The default configuration of the RS232 interface are DF1 full-duplex, 19.2 Kbps, no parity, Station Address 0, No Handshaking, BCC error detection, Auto Detect embedded responses, 8 Data bits and 1 Stop bits. This default configuration may be manually configured to establish initial communication to the device. If used with RSLinx, auto-configure maybe used to automatically detect the communication settings. This same RS232 port may also be configured as ASCII protocol interface to connect to barcode instruments, typically used in manufacturing process.

The ethernet communication requires initial configuration which may be done by using BOOTP-DHCP or by downloading through the RS232 interface. By using BOOTP-DHCP, an ethernet cable is needed to connect the controller to the BOOTP host.

The Allen-Bradley 1769-L32E compact Logix controller comes in a unique, compact, and cost-effective package. It features an integrated One (1) EtherNet and One (1) serial communication port. It can connect to devices through the 1747-CP3 or the 1756-CP3 cable or an Ethernet cable. It has an integral user memory of 750 KB with an expansion option using a CompactFlash card with part number 1784-CF128.

The 1769-L32E has a replaceable battery with appropriate part number of 1769-BA. This controller supports installation of up to Sixteen (16) Compact I/O modules, with a maximum of 3 I/O banks connectable through 2 expansion cables. The 1769-L32E has a (5 Volts) DC draw current of 850 mA and heat dissipation of up to 6.5 Watts. The 1769-L32E can be mounted with ease using either a DIN mount or panel mount method. The DIN mount has an operational shock rating of 30 G and a 50 G non-operational shock rating, while the panel has a 30 G shock rating in the operating mode, and a 50 G shock rate in the non-operating mode.
The 1769-L32E controller has a vibration rating of 5 G in the operating mode. It can resist a mounting torque force of 1.1 to 1.8 N-m. The 1769-L32E has a 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) operating temperature range and a -40 to 85 degrees Celsius (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit) storage temperature range, and a non-condensing relative humidity range of 0 to 95%. This Logix controller has Group 1 certified emission (CISPA11) levels and it has a distinct open-style enclosure. The recommended wire size for a stranded wire is between 22 and 16 AWG, while a solid wire should be rated between 22 and 14 AWG. This module weighs around 2 pounds when it is shipped and measures 8 x 8 x 5 inches.
The CompactLogix 1769 series may serve as migration platform for legacy Allen Bradley PLC series, PLC5 and SLC500. The wide range of CompactLogix 1769 products including 1769-L32E, ensures that previous processor capabilities are maintained and enhanced.

Up to Sixteen (16) Compact I/O modules may be installed with the 1769-L32E processor. It also supports expansion by adding up to Three (3) I/O expansion bank. The integral memory of this controller amounts to 750 Kbytes which may be coupled with a non-volatile memory by installing a 1784-CF64 or 1784-CF128 CompactFlash cards. This controller uses a 1769-BA to retain user memory. Avoid complete discharging of the battery as this may result to wiping out the user memory including the user program. Prevent such incident with the use of a non-volatile memory.
