Pyromation Industrial Thermocouples with Special-Service Composite Protection Tube
Pyromation’s thermocouples with special-service composite protection tubes are engineered for high-temperature and corrosive industrial environments, such as waste incinerators, cement and lime kilns, utility and waste recovery boilers, and other severe process settings. These assemblies are designed to ensure accurate temperature measurement and extended service life under harsh conditions.
Thermocouple Types and Configurations
The assemblies typically feature base-metal thermocouples, including Type K and Type N, utilizing 8-gauge ceramic oval insulators. For duplex configurations, where two thermocouple elements are required, round insulators are provided with Series 71 tubes and duplex elements in Series 12 tubes. However, duplex elements are not available in Series 71 tubes. These configurations allow for precise temperature monitoring across various industrial processes.
Protection Tube Materials and Specifications
The thermocouples are equipped with specialized protection tubes to withstand extreme conditions:
-
Metal Ceramic (LT-1): Rated up to 1371 °C (2500 °F), these tubes have a nominal inner diameter of 5/8 inch and an outer diameter of 7/8 inch. They are available with a steel hex fitting (1-inch process threads and 3/4-inch termination threads) or a steel pipe nipple (1-inch threads for both process and termination).
-
Silicate-Bonded Silicon Carbide: Suitable for temperatures up to 1649 °C (3000 °F), these tubes feature a nominal inner diameter of 1 inch and an outer diameter of 1 3/4 inches. Options include plain tubes or tubes with a 3-inch outer diameter collar, both without process or termination threads.
-
Recrystallized Silicon Carbide (RSiC): With a maximum temperature rating of 1600 °C (2912 °F), these tubes come with a nominal inner diameter of 1/2 inch and an outer diameter of 7/8 inch. They are offered with a steel hex fitting (1-inch process threads and 3/4-inch termination threads) or a steel pipe nipple (1-inch threads for both process and termination).
Customization and Options
To accommodate specific application requirements, Pyromation provides various customization options:
-
Head Terminations: Choices include aluminum screw-cover heads, cast-iron screw-cover heads, flip-top aluminum heads, and 316 stainless steel screw-cover heads.
-
Assembly Options: Additional features such as 1/2-inch NPT conduit reducer bushings, internal ground screws, adjustable mounting flanges, threaded flanges on nipples, stainless steel tags, 316 stainless steel nipples or hex fittings, and configurations without threads are available to tailor the assemblies to specific installation needs.
Applications
These thermocouple assemblies are ideal for industries requiring reliable temperature measurement in challenging environments. Their robust construction and specialized materials make them suitable for processes involving high temperatures, corrosive substances, and abrasive conditions, ensuring durability and accuracy in critical applications.
By offering a range of thermocouple types, protection tube materials, and customizable options, Pyromation’s special-service composite protection tube assemblies provide versatile and reliable solutions for industrial temperature measurement challenges.
