The Fireye 70D40 is a semi-automatic, solid-state burner control module designed to provide ignition and flame failure protection for manually ignited oil or gas burners. As part of Fireye’s D Series burner management controls, it ensures safe and reliable operation by supervising the burner start-up sequence and monitoring flame presence.
This control module is compatible with plug-in amplifier modules, allowing selection among ultraviolet (UV), repetitive self-check UV, AUTOCHECK infrared (IR), or rectification methods of flame detection. It includes a safe start check feature that prevents burner operation if a flame signal (real or simulated) is detected at start-up, enhancing safety. The 70D40 provides three single-pole double-throw (SPDT) and one single-pole normally open (SPNO) load switches for controlling external loads and initiating starting circuits.
For increased safety and reliability, Fireye offers amplifier modules such as the 72D1R3 AUTOCHECK infrared amplifier and the 72DUVS ultraviolet amplifier, which check the function of the flame detecting system for component failure during each burner firing cycle. Meter test jacks on each amplifier module provide flame signal readout with a DC voltmeter. The standard flame failure response time is four seconds, with optional amplifier modules (suffix “T”) available for a reduced response time of one second.
The 70D40 is adaptable for use in simple control systems or as a building block with auxiliary devices to provide additional functions, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial burner applications.
